1 illustration : watercolour and gouache ; 29.8 x 22.8 cm
Item consists of partially coloured illustration featuring two birds perched on a branch, possibly of a plum tree. One bird has a white body with black wings and lighter head, second bird is brown with white throat and black markings on head. Figures have been cut out and pasted on sheet with background details pencilled in (hand-coloured cut-and-paste birds, leafy branch, and fruit (all engraved) with pencil). On paper with watermark of Horn or Strasbourg lily (partial) (approximately 1780s).
Forbes may have added colour here too (likely the brown spots on the leaves if not more). A melange of different sources - probably from a European source. The bird on the upper branch (Wood chat) is from Donovan (1794).
