    Biographical history

    John Keats; born 31 October 1795 in Moorgate, London; died 23 February 1821 in Rome; English Romantic poet. He was one of the main figures of the second generation of romantic poets along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, despite his work only having been in publication for four years before his death.

    Binder's stamp on verso front flyleaf; on second front flyleaf: in pencil manuscript "From Mazie Osborne & from her (post Mortem) to me. W. W. F."; poem by Keats in pencil signed by W. W. F. (William Willoughby Francis) on blank leaves at end; (2) clippings tipped in and (1) clipping inserted.

        Rebound: green morocco, gilt double fillet borders, decorated with gilt floral sprays; gilt spine; richly decorated gilt turn-ins, gilt edges, pink moire silk doublures, silk loosening from flyleaves, gilt edges; upper cover detached, final leaves loosened.
