Jardin Grand-Allée is a major public green space within the parliamentary precinct of Quebec City. Now known as Parc de la Francophonie, the park is one of John Schreiber's most celebrated projects. From Grand-Allée, the provincial capital's gracious main street, a great lawn slopes down to a sunken terrace and pool, creating an amphitheatre which receives thousands of visitors during the Fête de la Francophonie and other public gatherings. A site for the scupltures during Quebec's Winter Carnival, the park is also enlivened by a sculptural pigeon-house originally conceived by John Schreiber as a means of attracting pigeons away from the nearby Parliament buildings and adjacent structures. The central pedestrian access of the park is a diagonal path between two large buildings housing government departments which were constructed during the great expansion of the Quiet Revolution.
