Softbound notebook with marbled paper covers and ruled blue pages, containing manuscript text describing the route of mail delivery from Southampton, England, to India. Lecture accompanies and describes a pictorial representation of the mail delivery route, including details as to the principal cities, the manners, the streets, customs, inhabitants, the architecture, and every object of interest on the route from Southampton to Calcutta. Also included in the file are two pieces of ephemera, originally laid into notebook: one is a clipping for "Oswald Hughes's great pictorial and musical entertainment, entitled, The Route of the Overland Mail to China! Illustrated by a Colossal Diorama"; the second is a yellow admittance ticket for "Mr. Oswald Hughes's great pictorial representation of the route of the overland mail from England to India."
