    Administrative history

Marcus Ward & Co. was a British publishing company founded in 1802 and based in Belfast and London that manufactured greeting cards and illustrated books. They were talented in lithography, winning medals for excellence in this area. In the 1860s, they produced greeting cards for other companies before creating their own branding. Famous illustrators of their valentine cards include Walter Crane and Kate Greenaway. The firm closed its doors in 1899 due to lack of financing.
