Sigma XI scientific honour society was founded at Cornell in 1886. By 1968, the society had 168 chapters and 172 clubs in the United States and Canada. Sigma XI publishes the journal American Scientist. Membership includes faculty members, graduate students, and outstanding final-year undergraduates. The McGill chapter was founded in 1922, with W.W. Chipman as its first president.

Glen Siebrasse was born in 1934.

He was a Canadian poet, writer, editor, and book cover designer. He was very active in Montreal poetry circles in the 1960s and 1970s. He collaborated with Louis Dudek and Michael Gnarowski, as well as others, in writing and publishing prose during this time. He served as co-editor of the magazine Yes (1956-1970) and editor of the press Delta Canada Books. Siebrasse published several collections of poems, e.g., "The Regeneration of an Athlete" (1965), "Man: Unman" (1968) and "Jerusalem" (1971).

He died on November 5, 2009, in Montreal, Quebec.
