Sir Henry Streatfeild was born on January 4, 1857, in Chiddingstone, Kent, England, son of Lt. Colonel Henry Dorrien Streatfeild (1825-1889).

He was an English courtier and British Army officer. He attended Eton College before entering the Grenadier Guards in 1876. In 1883, he was appointed an aide-de-camp to the Governor-General of Canada, the 5th Marquess of Landsdowne. When the Marquess became Viceroy of India in 1885, Streatfeild followed him as his military secretary. He also served as aide-de-camp to the General Governor of Ireland, the 2nd Baron Houghton (1892), Field Marshal Lord Roberts (1895-1899), and Lieutenant-General Lord Methuen (1899-1901). In 1908, Streatfeild was appointed Equerry to King Edward VII. In 1910, his successor George V appointed him Private Secretary to his mother HM Queen Alexandra, a position he held until 1925. During the First World War, he was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the Grenadier Guards (1914–1919). He was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (1902), promoted Commander in 1912, Knight Commander in 1916, and Knight Grand Cross in the 1926 New Year Honours. He was also appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (1911) and a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (1918).

In 1885, he married Florence Beatrice Anson (1860–1946). He died on July 26, 1938, in Chiddingstone, Kent, England.

Talented in sports, especially skiing, Lee Strathy graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science in 1914 and received his certification in 1915 as lieutenant in the Canadian Officer Training Corps. He was appointed to the 26th Battery, but at the time that he was wounded on the front, he was with the 7th Battery of the 2nd Brigade of Canadian Field Artillery. He received the Military Cross for “conspicuous gallantry in action.” In 1920, according to the McGill News, he was connected with the staff of Canadian General Electric Company in Peterborough, Ontario.
