Document, possibly a draft of an affidavit, with an account of a rumour the writer heard about a Mr. Powel, written in a hand identified at James Morrison's. The writer describes overhearing Messrs. John Deslisle, Ademard Sanguinet sharing a rumour that Mr Powel (possibly William Summer Powell) had been transported from Detroit to Montreal as a prisoner charged with high treason. The men had seen Powel arrive in the company of Mr. Magie, Mr. Lamote, Mr. Babie, an officer of the 5th Regt. After questioning the men, the writer encountered Mr. Clerk who vehemently denied the rumours and threatened a prosecution against any who continued to spread the rumour. Sheet also bears accounts owed to Monarque for purchases of veal and beef, both at the bottom of the account of the rumour and on the verso, dated 10 May 1782 and 5 September.
